Holland Festival

Since 1947, Amsterdam has been offering a wide variety of extraordinary and stimulating artistic projects from all over the world thorugh the month-long celebration of the arts - the Holland Festival.

Every year, June is reserved for an extraordinary programme in Amsterdam's most prestigious concert halls and theatres, including the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, the Muziektheater, the Stadsschouwburg and the Westergasfabriek. International theatre, music, dance, opera, film, art - from the West and abroad.
 
 

Open Garden Days

Open Garden days
Every year, the Amsterdam Canal Museums organise the Open Garden Days in the third weekend of June. The gardens, hidden behind the stately facades and canals of Amsterdam, are true oases of peace and greenery. Each year the Open Garden Days are being organised around a theme.
The gardens will be open all three days from 10 am to 5 pm and can be reached by foot. Tickets can be purchased at selected gardens e.g The Museum van Loon, Keizersgracht 672.




Over het IJ Festival

Dance, theatre and the arts form an effervescent festival centred around the IJ harbour - in a shipyard, in shipping containers and in an old Russian submarine. Every year in the beginning of July the shipyard transforms into a factory for creative productions.
 
Over het IJ Festival is thé site-specific theatre festival at the shores of the IJ. Just take the relaxing ferry trip across the water and end up in the vivid heart of the festival on the former NDSM shipyard.
 
 

Amsterdam Gay Pride

The Amsterdam Pride is an annual gay festival in the centre of Amsterdam, organized in the first weekend of August. Amsterdam will have street parties all weekend long, the best club circuit parties and of course the famous Canal Parade on Saturday.

The Canal Parade on Saturday is the highlight of the Amsterdam Gay Pride weekend. More then 80 decorated boats will navigate through the canals during the traditional boat float.
 
 

Uitmarkt

The Uitmarkt is the national opening of the cultural season and the largest cultural festival in the Netherlands.
Yearly in August a 3-day festival throughout the centre of Amsterdam.

Over the years, the Uitmarkt has evolved into a festival attracting 500,000 visitors and featuring 2,000 performers at more than 30 venues. And it's all free!

Summer in the park

The Vondelpark Openluchttheater is an open air theatre with shows from June until August, especially in the weekends. There are performances of classical music, pop music, world music, dance, musical theatre, and cabaret. All performances have free entrance.

The Vondelpark is a public urban park in Amsterdam. It is located west from the Leidseplein and the Museumplein.
 

De Parade

De ParadeEvery summer in August the mobile theatre festival De Parade visits Amsterdam for a few weeks. Transforming the Martin Luther King park into temporary cultural streets lined with dozens of colourful tents. Theatre, dance, films, music, catering establishments and other attractions, it has something to please everyone's tastes. The performances are staged several times each evening.
 
Just take the parade boat from the Stopera (departures start at 6 pm) and cruise in a relaxed way with a drink and music to the Parade in the Martin Luther King park. Or take tram 25 until the last stop (President Kennedylaan).

Grachtenfestival

The Grachtenfestival is the annual festival in August with (classical) music on special locations in the centre of Amsterdam and on the IJ banks. Every year new locations are added. These locations stand out because of special or monumental architecture and cultural and historical value. Classical music, water and architecture are the elements of the Grachtenfestival.

The Grachtenfestival makes a special effort to provide a stage for young talent. Many of the concerts are free of charge or accessible against a small fee.


Loveland Festival

Loveland Festival AmsterdamThe Amsterdam dance festival Loveland takes place every year in August at Sloterpark. With over 50 international DJs spread over eight stages, it's a major event on the summer dance calendar.
 
Sloterpark is located in Amsterdam West. Take a train or bus to railway station Sloterdijk, there will be shuttle busses to Loveland festival.


 

Sunsets Film Festival

Sunsets Film Festival AmsterdamThe annual Sunsets Film Festival in the Vondelpark (next to café/restaurant Vertigo) screens film classics every Friday night for two months in summer. The backdrop of the Vondelpark provides the perfect setting to sit back and enjoy film classics on a giant screen.
 
2011 is the last year that Sunsets will take place in the Vondelpark before EYE Film Institute moves to its new home in Amsterdam Noord.
 
 

World Cinema Amsterdam

World Cinema AmsterdamThe best independent films from Latin America, Asia and Africa on one festival in Amsterdam De Pijp district. The festival includes a competition programme and open-air event on Marie Heinekenplein square. Every year in August.

Locations: Cinema Rialto is situated at the Ceintuurbaan. You will find the Marie Heinekenplein at Ferdinand Bolstraat.

 
 
 

Mysteryland

Mysteryland AmsterdamMysteryland brings an explosion of various electronic styles, ranging from cutting edge dubstep, hip hop and disco to the cream of the international house, techno and electro scene.
 
Mysteryland takes place at the end of August at the Floriade, Haarlemmermeer, near Amsterdam. Mysteryland is easiest to reach from Hoofddorp train station. A shuttle bus service will run between Hoofddorp and the festival area.
