Gay & Lesbian Special Events

There are a couple of bigger gay events in Amsterdam worth visiting the city for. The biggest and most famous ones are Gay Pride Amsterdam, with its unique canal parade over the Prinsengracht and Queensday, when all of The Netherlands celebrates the Queen’s birthday. The latter is not a specific gay event at all, but somehow there is a special connection between the gay community and the (Dutch) Royals. But also the less famous events like, Amsterdam Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and Hartjesdagen on the Zeedijk, are worthwhile visting Amsterdam for.
Go to the details and reviews page of Amsterdam Gay Pride in Amsterdam Amsterdam Gay Pride is held in (the week before) the first full weekend of August. One of the highlights is the Gay Canal Parade on the Saturday. Around 80 floats sail along the Prinsengracht and hundreds of thousands people watch them pass by. The Canal Parade is the highlight of Amsterdam Gay Pride, but there are many other (cultural) events and parties during this week.

After Kingsday (formerly: Queensday), the canal parade is the biggest event for Amsterdam, with around 800.000 visitors from all around the world.
