This Dutch organisation was founded in Amsterdam in 1955. The foundation wants to inspire understanding of the world through quality photojournalism. Following the World Press Photo Contest in Amsterdam, the prize-winning photographs are assembled into a travelling exhibition that is visited by over two million people in some 45 countries worldwide.

In Amsterdam the World Press Photo exhibition takes place in De Nieuwe Kerk (The New Church), situated in the city centre on Dam Square.

It offers a varied exhibition program in which photography's rich history and diverse uses are given consideration. In addition to this, the museum also frequently shows work from its own collection of contemporary photography.

The collection includes more than 500 photographs. Most of this collection is made up of internationally oriented photography, with a special interest in contemporary Dutch, South African and Japanese work.
