Every Friday night, lounge chairs, video projections, live music, DJs and a bar transform the museum’s central hall into a relaxed place to meet.

A visit to the Van Gogh Museum is a unique experience. The museum contains the largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the world. There are free guided tours of the exhibitions at 19.00 in English and at 20.00 in Dutch.

On a sunny day it is a nice relaxing break from the city. The IJ-Kantine is a huge, modernly decorated brasserie with a large number of windows. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but of course also coffee and refreshing drinks.

The IJ-Kantine is situated close to the NDSM ship yard - Amsterdam's creative and artistic hatch. From March to October they have a beautiful, large terrace with a wonderful view over the water.

Go to the details & reviews page of 17th-century art for free at the Amsterdam museum Inside the arched gateway to the Amsterdam Museum at Kalverstraat 92 lies a hidden passageway filled with enormous 17th-century paintings of wealthy citizens from the Dutch Golden Age. Each year, the citizens involved in the Civic Guard would pay a high price to have their portraits painted. Only the wealthy could afford such a luxury.

The Civic Guards Gallery also exhibits modern portraits of Dutch celebrities. No admission fee is charged to visit the Schuttersgalerij (Civic Guards' Gallery).

Every Wednesday during the cultural season, from the beginning of September to the end of June, a free lunch concert is offered at 12.30 to 13.00. We recommend to be there at least half an hour in advance as these lunch concerts are very popular.

The concerts vary from public rehearsals by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and concerts by conservatory ensembles, to chamber music performances by young up-and-coming artists.

Go to the details & reviews page of The Cat Boat in Amsterdam The Cat Boat is the only animal sanctuary in the Netherlands that floats. The Cat Boat is a refuge for stray and abandoned cats at a very special location on a houseboat in Amsterdam's beautiful canal belt.
All the cleaning, feeding and petting is done by a wonderful group of volunteers and they depend entirely upon donations. Naturally, you can make a donation if you visit the Cat Boat.

There are cats that they try to re-home but there are also some cats living on the boat who can be adopted financially.
