Gay & Lesbian - Special Events
These events are either especially organised for gays, by gays or they just attract a lot of gay following. No matter in which of these categories they fall: they are great fun and a must to attend.
Roze Filmdagen De Roze Filmdagen (The Pink Film Days) are held in cinema Het Ketelhuis, in Culture Park Westergasgasfabriek. The entire cinema - with three screening rooms, a nice bar and (new this year) food & snacks - will be dedicated to pink cinema. A high quality, broad and diverse selection of gay movies (features, documentaries and many shorts) from all around the world will await you there. With 112 screenings from 32 countries, the selection is bigger than ever. The festival offers many screenings that have never been shown in The Netherlands before. The vast majority of screenings will have subtitles in English, or be spoken in English. The language of each screening is noted in the programme. Although Queensday is not specifically a gay festivity, it became one of the main gay events of the year, especially in Amsterdam. On Queensday the streets of Amsterdam turn orange, the colour of our Royal family. There are huge street and open-air celebrations all over town, where straight and gay mix together and celebrate all day long. The days around Queensday are full of gay parties and have also become very popular with international (gay) travellers. There is dance, performances, a small ‘parade’, a competition for best dressed man/woman and of course a lot of food and drinks. This is truly a unique event that is not to be missed when in Amsterdam.
